New Product: Essex Porsche Brake Caliper Stud Kits
12.16.2025One of the few drawbacks of radial-mount calipers is how they're sometimes fastened to the car. To secure their OE calipers, Porsche often uses steel bolts threaded into aluminum uprights. That's fine for the initial assembly process, but every brake service afterward carries the risk of cross-threading—especially since the caliper typically comes off every time you swap pads or discs. The risk compounds if you’re constantly racking up track miles, burning through pad sets, and cracking brake discs. Repeatedly running steel bolts in and out of an aluminum upright is a great way to end up with stripped threads and a very expensive unwanted bill at the Porsche parts counter. Porsche race cars, like the 911 GT3 Cup, solve this issue by using caliper studs instead of bolts—an approach that’s become a smart, popular upgrade for street-based track cars as well.
In general, caliper stud kits offer the following benefits on your Porsche:
- They are a more durable caliper fastening solution vs. constantly replacing the factory single-use bolts
- Removal and re-installation of the caliper is much easier during brake pad swaps, disc changes, etc.
- The risk of stripping your aluminum upright is much lower compared to repeatedly threading in OE caliper bolts
We designed our Essex Caliper Stud Kits to be the absolute best solution currently on the market, with the following unique features:
- Our heavy-duty shank design maintains its full diameter (thickness) across the entire length of the stud, increasing strength
- Essex studs are made of nickel chromoly steel with rolled threads for superior durability compared to cut threads found on other kits
- They are installed by tightening with a 5mm internal hex key (Allen), reducing the risk of thread damage during installation vs. other common methods
- If using with caliper relocation spacers (as in our Essex 2-piece Disc upgrades), no additional adapters sleeves are required
These kits are sold on a per axle basis in 5 different lengths to fit a variety of popular Porsche applications. You can find the correct stud kits for your Porsche using the Year/Make/Model/Option selector at the top of our website.
