617 RWHP C6Z06 Owner Transforms Brakes from a Weakness to Strength

07.09.2025

One of our Mamofied C6Z06 clients recently sent us an update on his experience with our front-only CP9668/372mm Competition Brake Kit. He had a scary, high-speed off when one of his stock front calipers failed, and decided to make the leap on our front-only Radi-CAL Brake Kit. Three years later he's still on his first set of discs, and is thrilled with how they've been performing:

"Experience with stock calipers, aftermarket rotors and Hawk racing pads:
In 2022 – while running a HPDE track weekend at PITT Race, coming into turn 17 @ approx. 120mph, I lost the brakes. Somehow, I slowed the car enough to make the corner without major incident. I had been running aftermarket rotors (cannot remember brand), hawk pads, stainless brake lines, and good high temp fluid. None of that was the issue, all good componentry. The failure happened in the stock caliper. Fluid pushed out the bleeders and the pistons, inside the caliper.
After that experience (it was the end of the season) – I purchased the 9668 / 372mm kit for the C6 ZO6 model AP Racing offers, fronts only. Since then have 2.5 seasons, approx. 15 track days and have not touched the front brakes for any type of maintenance. I also run the AP R3 fluid in my system. I run the original Ferodo pads that came with the kit – I have two new AP rings boxes (may not even be needed), and Carbotech XP20 to go up front when I change them out, end of 2025 season. In the past with the stock setup, I doubt I ever made it through 1 season without a front brake change.
The components are of great quality, and the stopping power is impressive. I run tracks with both longer straights, and tight technical sections. Tracks such as VIR and Mid-Ohio, I can be coming off the straight anywhere between 150-167mph into a slow (50-60mph) corner and have full confidence in the braking ability of the car. The AP kits lets you brake further down into the zone without issue. This is with a “heavy” 3,000# car. I have no issues or worries with the kit – I think this was the best modification to the C6 – as the stock front calipers are not up to any track service beyond Novice.
Depending on what you want to do, I plan to eventually run TT class with this car / setup, this is a one-time upgrade and should be done sooner in your modification schedule than later. A lot of things have changed in the car since I upgraded the brakes, the car is a lot faster. Potential AP kit for the rear in future – but the fronts will not have to be touched. Great job AP – really happy with how it improved the car for track use"
