The Hawk HPS is an inexpensive, mild, semi-metallic pad that is perfect if you want low dust and very little noise during street driving. The small amount of dust that is produced is a light coppery color, and is easily removed when washing the car. Hot and cold bite are both adequate for day-to-day driving, but certainly won’t snap your neck when standing on the brakes. The HPS does not have a high enough max operating temperature to work well on the track. Once these pads absorb too much heat, their mu falls off and wear rates accelerate quickly. The HPS is an appropriate street pad for all types of coupes, convertibles, sedans, hatchbacks, and wagons.
Hawk Performance Street Brake Pads now come with Hawk Gearhead Grease Paks, designed to minimize brake noise. Essex does not recommend using the Grease Pak if you plan on driving your car aggressively and putting a lot of heat into your brake system. Under such conditions, the grease can essentially “cook” on the back of the pad, making a mess of your pads, rotors, and calipers.
HPS disc brake pads are world-renowned for increasing stopping power on your street legal vehicle. Hawk Performance’s engineers developed the HPS compound by blending the safety and quality aspects of Aerospace design with braking technology derived from Motorsports efforts. The result is a unique Ferro-Carbon brake compound that delivers significant advantages of increased stopping power, extended pad life, extended rotor life and low dust properties for street applications.
Our high performance street compound offers a higher coefficient of friction over stock brake pads and can provide you 20-40% more stopping power, with higher resistance to brake fade than standard replacement pads.
HPS Brake Pad Key Features:
- Increased stopping power
- High friction/torque hot or cold
- Gental on rotors
- Extended pad life
- Low dust
- Virtually noise-free
- Ideal for import and domestic automobiles
All Hawk Performance street brake pads provide a limited lifetime warranty, ensuring products to be free of defects from manufacturer’s workmanship and materials. See the FAQ section on our website (www.hawkperformance.com) warranty information.
Note:
Hawk Performance burnishes its High Performance Street brake pads as a final step in the factory, but all brake pads have to be bedded-in with the rotors (new or used) that they will be used against. Properly bedding-in new brake pads results in a transfer film being generated at the pad and rotor interface to maximize brake performance.

Know Brakes 1: How to Bed-in Brake Pads and Rotors
Know Brakes. with Jeff Ritter Episode I: Preparing Brake Pads and RotorsProperly bedding in your brake pads and rotors is absolutely critical if you want to squeeze the most performance from your brake system. Unfortunately, many enthusiasts don’t understand how or why they should be doing this important procedure. In this inaugural episode of “Know Brakes,” Jeff Ritter teaches you everything you need to know to prepare your brake pads and rotors for heavy use. Highlights include in-car footage of the process, before and after component photos, and an interview with AP Racing engineer Steve Hood. Armed with the knowledge in this video, you’ll be able to get...
